Everyone I know who wears J Brand jeans, calls the denim maker one of their favorites. Even my husband raves about how much he loves his J Brand jeans. Simple, comfortable, and durable…not flashy or trashy, J Brand is a fancy jean without being fancy at all. Admittedly I have not owned my own pair, and though I’ve tried some out, I wanted to give the skinny ankle jean a try, to see if it really lived up to the hype.
The Denim…
The J Brand 10″ Ankle Skinny Jean in Sliver Lake was the perfect pale grey for spring and summer. Upon opening, the package, you could see the fabric was a bit sturdier than other lightweight denims, and stretchier somehow even with the 2% spandex/ 98%cotton. The the subtle wash can really only be noticed if you take a close look, and there is some softness caused by the the distressing, but it’s also quite subtle. They seemed a bit brighter than what they looked like in the shop, so I was a bit surprised when in the pictures they look almost white. They’re definitely a pale gray, a nice alternative to wearing white jeans.
Don’t ask why I ordered a size up (I’ve been feeling pudgy) but I should have ordered my regular size, these are comfortable, but I like my skinny jeans to be a teeeensy bit tighter. I liked the 8″ rise on them, perhaps getting anything less than an 8″ rise would be asking for trouble, even at the larger size, I felt that they were comfortable, not baggy, and held a nice shape to them. I am definitely looking forward to trying out more J Brand jeans and see why they are such a favorite amongst denim lovers.

Wear it with…
Since the summer is basically here, for those of you who live in normal places, that means hot weather. In San Francisco, not so much. However, I do love the summer colors, muted beige, olive green, gray, mixed with bold colors like turquoise or coral. One of the essentials I’m finding this summer is my army jacket, which has been in the seasonal rotation for several years, every time I think I’m over it, the army jacket makes it’s return. Especially since the return of the cargo jean has made it’s way back with a new skinny twist. I’ve been seeing a lot of long t-shirts in the stores lately, and decided to give it a try with the skinny jean, and I quite like the look. As with a lot of ankle length pants, I find it best to wear with a flat or an oxford. Perhaps a high heeled bootie, but I felt more casual today, so flat it is!
